Infected with Covid-19 during her stay in Sweden, Croatian writer Slavenka Drakulić spent six weeks in a Stockholm hospital, including six days on a respirator. In this story, she describes the harrowing moments after waking up in the Intensive Care Unit and her long struggle to recover. Reflecting on the relationship between body and mind, Drakulić deals with several themes at the center of her most recent narrative production. Her collection of short stories entitled Nevidljiva žena, (Invisible Woman, Zagreb, Fraktura, 2018), forthcoming in Italian, focuses on how aging renders the elderly invisible, not only in society but also in the most intimate spaces of the family.
